Past, Present and Future
When the University was incorporated in 1785, UGA became the first state in the nation to charter a state-supported university. In 1834 a group of 71 graduates met in the Chapel to organize an alumni society. A constitution was adopted, officers were elected and UGA became the fourth college in America to establish an alumni society.
The 'society' has come a long way since its inception in 1834!
Today, the Association connects UGA alumni worldwide who gather together through community service projects, networking opportunities and leisure activities. The Association also funds scholarships and fellowships for outstanding UGA students and provides assistance to many campus programs.
Faculty, staff and alumni are awarded for their outstanding contributions to UGA through the Alumni Merit Award, Faculty Service Award, and Family of the Year Award, among others.
First Friday: Day With the Dawgs, the Annual Homecoming BBQ and Bulldog Breakfast Clubs are only a few of the many special events the Association organizes and sponsors.
Scholarship, involvement and leadership among the next generation of UGA graduates is encouraged greatly. The Student Alumni Association and the Student Alumni Council reach out to the campus community and involve current students with Association programming.
Staff provides expertise and dedication in carrying out many Association initiatives. Members enjoy the opportunity to participate in Athens and Atlanta programs, and those who have moved farther a field can enjoy Bulldog camaraderie through local Chapters and Clubs, run through Regional Programs. Multicultural Programs, Women of UGA and SoloSENIORS reach out to specific groups of alumni with similar interests and backgrounds.
