Elsie Porter - Artist, Adventurer, Entrepreneur
Elise Porter didn't pick up a paint brush until after she was 40 years old. She has been enthusiastically discovering her talent for more than ten years. Her works are displayed both publicly and privately. She likes the fluidity of latex, the structure of acrylic and the richness of oil. Much of her work finds its way to larger canvases where she has the room to express herself. "When I paint, I am totally focused, the world just seems to melt away. It's the most exciting thing in the world for me to pick up a brush and become a conduit. Much of my work reflects catharsis, a process of some sort. Painting has become my voice."
There is a vitality, a life force, an energy,
a quickening that is translated through you
into action; and because there is only one you
in all time, this expression is unique.
If you block it, it will never exist
through any other medium and it will be lost.
The world will not have it.
You must keep that channel open.
It is not for you to determine how good it is,
nor how valuable.
Nor how it compares with other expressions.
It is for you to keep it yours,
clearly and directly.
-Martha Graham
"I love what Martha Graham has to say about not blocking one's talent. How sad it would be to be deprived of what each of us has to offer. Painting and sharing my work with others is the most authentic thing I've ever done."
