Doug McKillip '91, '94

Born and raised in Athens, Doug McKillip currently resides just blocks away from his childhood home. Doug was raised in Five Points and attended Barrow Elementary, Clarke Middle School, and Clarke Central High School. As the son of two University of Georgia professors, William & Carol McKillip, Doug was instilled with the importance of public education at an early age. He graduated cum laude from the University of Georgia and became a "Double Dawg" with the completion of his law degree from the University of Georgia's School of Law ('94).

After working as an associate at Winburn, Lewis and Barrow, Doug founded Lancaster & McKillip PC with a law school classmate, Paul Lancaster. McKillip's firm concentrates in real estate closings and civil litigation, though a division of the firm is allocated to litigating the enforcement of environmental regulations.

In 2000, Doug's commitment to progress led him to run for the Georgia House of Representatives. Though Doug won his hometown of Athens, he was narrowly defeated by a Republican incumbent in a staunchly Republican portion of the district. Doug's platform centered on education, healthcare and strengthening the middle class, the same concerns that would compel him to run for the Georgia House of Representatives in 2006.

Doug's race in '06 had no less than four separate candidates qualify for the seat. Nevertheless Doug was able to capture over 52% of the vote, winning by 27% over his next closest opponent. Doug's strong showing can be attributed to his tireless work ethic and his commitment to progress on the same issues that inspired him to run six years earlier; traits that should serve him well in the legislature.
