She began her career in the financial services industry as a marketing specialist for life and long term care insurance with AIM Systems, Inc. She served as the financial planner for IJL/Wachovia. Before starting Alberty Financial, she was a financial advisor for Merrill Lynch and then for Smith Barney in Athens.
Laurel is originally from Miami, Florida. She received her undergraduate degree in International Business from the University of Georgia in Athens, GA. Laurel and her husband Stephen reside in Watkinsville and have a son, Walker.
Laurel is a business columnist for the Athens Banner-Herald business section. She is a 2003 Athena Award Nominee. She is also a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow.
