The Southern California Chapter of the UGA Alumni Association has had an amazing year hosting a variety of events throughout the region. This year, the chapter was led by Mark DelRosario ’00, ’03. As president, Mark put a great deal of passion and hard work into the chapter along with a group of other loyal alumni and friends. As every good leader does, Mark has decided to step down as president in order to allow for new volunteers to lead the chapter. I hope you will join me in thanking Mark for all that he has done for the chapter and for his alma mater.

On January 15, 2013, I will be traveling to Los Angeles to facilitate a chapter leadership interest meeting and election of new officers. The event will take place at South in Santa Monica. Please save the date! 

If you have a love for all things UGA and are interested in becoming more involved with the SoCal Chapter, we want to meet you! There are a number of positions to fill, many ideas to discuss and a bright future to sustain in Southern California. No prior experience necessary; just a passion for our alma mater and a desire for the success of the SoCal Chapter. All UGA alumni and friends are invited to participate in a leadership role with the chapter. The role of president must be fulfilled by a UGA graduate, though all other positions are open to friends of UGA.

Over the course of our leadership committee’s short tenure so far, we have quickly come to realize just how vast and wide our Southern California Alumni Chapter really is – so vast that it just has not been possible for everyone to come to our events. We understand! And since you can’t come to us, we are coming to YOU.

Starting next week, for EIGHT consecutive Wednesdays, we will be venturing into YOUR neck of the woods for an after-work happy hour social. You can meet us, we can meet you, you will get to meet other Georgia Bulldogs in your very neighborhood. And you don't have to drive far to find us!

Stay tuned each week for an announcement on the exact location and time for that week’s upcoming happy hour. Until then, save the date and be ready to come out for drinks, chatter, networking, a quick hello on your way home or whatever else we Dawgs do when in good company:

Come on down for the second stop on the Operation Bulldog Outreach Tour. This location is set on the shores of Crystal Cove (technically Newport Beach). We will be mingling with Dawgs and locals on the outside patio of this local hot spot. The event starts at 6:00 p.m. and ends around 8:30 p.m. Don't forget your business cards if you are looking to network professionally. If not, just come on down, hang out and enjoy the beautiful coastal breezes and beverages. See you there in your red and black!

Can you think of a better way to relieve stress at the end of a long day than to gather with fellow members of the Bulldog Nation that live in Southern California? The SoCal chapter of the UGA Alumni Association agrees there isn’t much that can beat it!

Therefore, the chapter is hosting a Bulldogs After Business Hours on Wednesday, May 15 at SOUTH in Santa Monica. There will be a special reserved section for UGA alumni and friends from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., so don your favorite red and black attire and plan to attend!

With these awards, the Alumni Association expresses its deep appreciation and admiration to people who – through their service, contributions and accomplishments – bring distinction and honor to the University of Georgia and our state, nation and world.

This year, we are proud to present the Faculty Service Award to Gordhan Patel and the Alumni Merit Award to Jack Rooker (BBA '60) and Norman Fletcher (AB '56, JD '58). Join Southern California UGA alumni as we cheer the Dawgs on to victory against the Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship Game and, hopefully, for a spot in the BCS National Championship! The Southern California Chapter will descend upon Gasser Lounge in Redondo Beach for the second year in a row for this special event. Gasser Lounge is owned and run by alum Mike Bouchard ’03 and will again showcase its red and black ties along with expanded seating and TVs! Food and beverage specials, along with catering, will be provided. Look for the big Georgia flag waving from the rooftop, and we will see you Saturday!
