This message is being sent out to all UGA alumni and friends living in the Lake Oconee area that are interested in organizing and getting involved with the UGA Alumni Association Chapter. There are active chapters in many other major Georgia cities, including Augusta, Athens, Columbus, Atlanta, and Savannah. We should be represented in Lake Oconee, too! There are over 1,400 alumni living in the area (including Greene, Morgan, and Putnam counties), and it would be great to network, support, and represent the University of Georgia. Regardless of when you graduated or what your major was, every UGA alum has a love for their alma mater! Let’s connect as many UGA alumni as possible and host events that will represent the University well. I am excited for the future of the UGA Alumni Association Lake Oconee Chapter. I hope that you will join me in this effort.

In observance of the University’s 228th anniversary, Dr. James Cobb '69, '72, '75 will present the 11th Annual Founders Day Lecture, entitled "I Don't Believe I'd a' Told That! Understanding the South Through Humor." Charles Gowen Spalding '13 will give the student response. The public is invited to attend.

The annual lecture recognizes the date UGA was established. In 1785, the Georgia General Assembly adopted a charter creating the University as the nation’s first state-chartered institution of higher education.

The Founders Day Lecture is sponsored by the UGA Alumni Association and the Emeriti Scholars, a group of retired faculty members especially known for their teaching abilities and continued involvement in the University’s academic life.

Cheer on the UGA men's and women's basketball teams in their home openers! The men's basketball team will be facing off against Jacksonville on November 9 at 7:00 PM. The women's basketball team will be playing Rutgers on November 11 at 2:00 PM.
