Once again, it’s time for the annual UGA Young Alumni Gathering at SweetWater Brewing Company! If you are a recent graduate, you are in for a treat. Each year, more than 200 young alumni gather together to enjoy live music, appetizers and tastings at one of Atlanta’s top breweries.

This message is for UGA alumni and friends living in Hall County who are interested in organizing and getting involved with the alumni chapter. There are active chapters all across the Metro Atlanta area and Hall County alumni should be represented too! More than 3,300 UGA alumni live in the area, and a chapter is a great way to network, support, and represent the University of Georgia.

Regardless of your class year or major, every UGA alumni loves UGA and Athens. Our goal is to connect as many UGA alumni as possible and host events that will represent the University well. I am excited for the future of the UGA Alumni Association Hall County Chapter, and I hope that you will join us in this effort.

Please mark your calendar for Tuesday, March 13! The Hall County Chapter will be hosting a Bulldogs After Business Hours event at Wild Wing Cafe in Gainesville at 5:30 pm. This is a casual, pay-your-way social event that will allow you to meet fellow alumni living and working in Hall.

The alumni chapter hosts a social gathering at 5:30 p.m. the first Thursday of every month downstairs at Poor Richard’s Restaurant. This is a great way to connect and network with other Bulldogs.

In observance of the University’s 228th anniversary, Dr. James Cobb '69, '72, '75 will present the 11th Annual Founders Day Lecture, entitled "I Don't Believe I'd a' Told That! Understanding the South Through Humor." Charles Gowen Spalding '13 will give the student response. The public is invited to attend.

The annual lecture recognizes the date UGA was established. In 1785, the Georgia General Assembly adopted a charter creating the University as the nation’s first state-chartered institution of higher education.

The Founders Day Lecture is sponsored by the UGA Alumni Association and the Emeriti Scholars, a group of retired faculty members especially known for their teaching abilities and continued involvement in the University’s academic life.

Cheer on the UGA men's and women's basketball teams in their home openers! The men's basketball team will be facing off against Jacksonville on November 9 at 7:00 PM. The women's basketball team will be playing Rutgers on November 11 at 2:00 PM.
