Once again, it’s time for the annual UGA Young Alumni Gathering at SweetWater Brewing Company! If you are a recent graduate, you are in for a treat. Each year, more than 200 young alumni gather together to enjoy live music, appetizers and tastings at one of Atlanta’s top breweries.

Summer is ending and fall is just around the corner.  School started on the 13th and the Athens Area Chapter helped greet the class of 2016 at the Freshmen Welcome gathering.  Thousands of freshmen created a super G on the field of Sanford Stadium.  It was fantastic!

Football season starts next weekend and the DAWGS are in the top 10!  It's going to be an exciting time between the hedges.

We are ramping up the Athens Area Chapter leadership team and had a great meeting last month.  There are some exciting things happening and I want to make sure you know about them.

August 31 - Kickoff Friday - Don't miss a chance to have breakfast with Coach Mark Richt!  Ladies out there, there's also a Women of UGA luncheon with the coaches’ wives this day—a full day of UGA!  CLICK HERE to register to attend. 

September 11 - Women of UGA Luncheon at Mirko's Pasta - hosted by Genevieve Swinford. CLICK HERE to register to attend.

Communications Chair for the Athens Area Chapter of the UGA Alumni Association

Volunteers are needed for two Alumni Association events taking place on campus during 2013 Spring Commencement week: the inaugural Commencement Celebration on Wednesday, May 8 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and the Welcome at the Arch on Friday, May 10 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

All volunteers will receive the official UGA Alumni T-shirt. Please note that volunteers will be standing for most of these events. Volunteers must be 18+.

Commencement Celebration (May 8 - 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.) The Alumni Association is hosting a special graduation party in the Tate Student Center Plaza on campus, and needs your help handing out giveaways, providing information to graduates about alumni chapters, and assisting with graduate contact information updates.

Welcome at the Arch (May 10 - 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; 2-hour shifts) The Alumni Association will welcome graduates and their families to the Arch and other key landmarks on campus with bottled water and information about staying connected after graduation. Volunteers are needed to hand out water and share some Bulldog spirit with UGA's newest graduates! Two-hour shifts are available during this event.

Join the Athens Area Chapter of the UGA Alumni Association for the UGA Relay for Life. Come support the fight against cancer with some fellow Dawgs. There will be all sorts of events including live music! This is one event that you don't want to miss. We look forward to seeing you there for all of the fun and fellowship as we fight against cancer!

Join the fun at the 6th Annual Dawg Trot 5K and Fun Run as hundreds of alumni and friends gather for Athens' largest 5K. The course will begin and end at Stegeman Coliseum.

In observance of the University’s 228th anniversary, Dr. James Cobb '69, '72, '75 will present the 11th Annual Founders Day Lecture, entitled "I Don't Believe I'd a' Told That! Understanding the South Through Humor." Charles Gowen Spalding '13 will give the student response. The public is invited to attend.

The annual lecture recognizes the date UGA was established. In 1785, the Georgia General Assembly adopted a charter creating the University as the nation’s first state-chartered institution of higher education.

The Founders Day Lecture is sponsored by the UGA Alumni Association and the Emeriti Scholars, a group of retired faculty members especially known for their teaching abilities and continued involvement in the University’s academic life.
