Community Foundation of Central Georgia President Kathryn Dennis (BA ‘84) Featured in The Telegraph

Kathryn Dennis (BA ‘84) is amazing. There just isn’t much more that needs to be said. The modest UGA alumna may shy away from individual recognition, but it is very much deserved. Therefore, The Telegraph recently featured Dennis and her dedication to the Community Foundation of Central Georgia.

The former SunTrust Bank branch manager is now president of the Community Foundation of Central Georgia. According to The Telegraph, The Community Foundation “is a publicly supported philanthropic organization that carries out the charitable interests of donors by investing funds as scholarships and grants. These funds benefit 16 counties, including Bibb, Houston and Peach. With $62 million in assets, the foundation has given out $50 million in grants since its establishment in 1993.”

Dennis is an Atlanta native, but has lived in Macon for more than half of her life. She and her husband Brown have raised three children there. Ten years ago, Dennis decided to join the Community Foundation to support the Central Georgia community that she fell in love with.

Impressed so far? Dennis is also a former chairwoman of the Stratford Academy Board of Trustees and the first female president of the Macon Rotary Club.

Please join me in thanking Kathryn Dennis for her dedication to improving the lives of many Central Georgians, and for representing the high-caliber UGA graduates that are lending their skills to nonprofits around the globe. We are so proud.

Forrest Griffin (AB ’03) retires from UFC

Forrest Griffin (AB ‘03) is hanging up his gloves as an Ultimate Fighting Challenge competitor. The alumnus has been a UFC fighter for eight years and played a major role in the company’s success.

Griffin was cast in the first season of The Ultimate Fighter, which he won after the live finale that has since been deemed one of UFC’s hallmark fights. During his career, Griffin went 19-7 in MMA fights and 10-5 in UFC fights. Adam (BSBE ’98, MS ’07) and Rory (BSBE ’99) Singer, owners of Bulldog 100 business Athens Fitness & MMA, played an integral role in launching Griffin’s career.

Griffin cites his health as the main reason for going into retirement. Despite his great MMA and UFC success, he has suffered a number of injuries during fights. He is expected to take on a position with UFC in the near future.

Congratulations on a successful career, Forrest – you are one tough Bulldog! I look forward to seeing what this next step on your UFC journey has in store for you.

However, locals can visit the new theatre tonight for just $2.50 per ticket. Proceeds from the ticket sales will go to Variety – The Children’s Charity of Georgia and the Oconee Food for Kids program.
