40th Anniversary of Coffee Hour

The University of Georgia’s International Student Life Office will commemorate the 40th anniversary of International Coffee Hour on Friday, September 21 from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm in the Memorial Hall Ballroom.  The event is open to the entire UGA and Athens communities and will include light refreshments, a selection of international teas and coffees, student cultural displays, a global fashion show, and entertainment from around the world from UGA student organizations and Athens community members.

Founded by Dr. Richard Reiff in 1972, International Coffee Hour is one of the longest running programs of its kind in the United States.  Coffee Hour has met in the same location (the Memorial Hall Ballroom) at the same time for four decades.  Additionally, this weekly event has provided a setting in which University students, faculty, and local community members exchange ideas, learn about the diversity of cultures represented on campus, and establish friendships with people from around the world.  Today, Coffee Hour serves more than 9,000 individuals annually.

Please join International Student Life on September 21st to celebrate UGA’s International Coffee Hour as one of our storied events at the University. I am eager at the powerful opportunity for members of the University community to come together to celebrate our cultures and differences. It is initiatives like this and many others at UGA, that begin with a single faculty member, student or alumni that tend to blossom into the most cherished around. Here is to 40 more years of embracing the diversity at UGA. Go Dawgs!

Thank a Donor Day is today!

Thank A Donor Day

Did you know that UGA’s first donation was 633 acres of land from John Milledge? This land later became the site of our beloved University of Georgia. To celebrate private donations, the Office of Donor Relations and Stewardship, in partnership with the Student Alumni Council, is hosting the third annual Thank a Donor Day today from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Tate Student Center Plaza. During this annual event, students will have the opportunity to express their donor appreciation in a variety of ways.

Students are invited to write personalized thank you notes, sign a large thank you card and/or create video and photo messages of gratitude. These messages will be combined and shared in the coming weeks with donors near and far (click here to view last year's video). UGA "student celebrities" will be part of the event, too! Expect to see "Big Man on Campus" Rance Nix, Miss UGA Adeline Kenerly, the UGA Ballroom Performance Group, Hairy Dawg and more.

Thank a Donor Day educates the UGA community about the importance of private giving and offers students opportunities to thank donors for their generosity and encourage a culture of philanthropy at UGA.

Follow along with the day's activities via the Thank a Donor Day Instagram accountFacebook page and Twitter handle. Students, be sure to stop by to express your gratitude - and receive some free giveaways. See you  there!

Thinc. at UGA Entrepreneurial Week

Successful entrepreneurs, including UGA graduates, will share their success stories and lessons learned as part of Thinc. Entrepreneurial Week, now through April 17. The Thinc. initiative is designed to help students, faculty and staff see the world of business opportunities at both the local and global levels, and to start "something in response.

That something might be a new for-profit company or a nonprofit social venture. It might change something in your own neighborhood or community, or it might change the world.

In addition to the “Starting Points” entrepreneur panel, this year’s Thinc. Entrepreneurial Week will feature a “give back” hackathon; a talk on breakthrough innovation by David Butler, Coca-Cola vice president of innovation and entrepreneurship; a collaborative innovation competition; an extreme networking session, events related to social entrepreneurship, and a local arts and culture business summit.

Please visit thinc.uga.edu for a full calendar of events, profiles of participating UGA students, faculty, staff and alumni entrepreneurs and all the information you need to get the most out of Thinc.
