The NYC Alumni Chapter is getting together for a wonderful volunteer opportunity for New York Cares Day on Saturday, April 20.

NYC Dawgs will join New York Cares and 5,000 other volunteers to make our city's parks and gardens cleaner, greener, and ready for the summer. New York Cares Day is a day of service during which volunteers across the city rake and clean debris, plant, mulch, paint fences and benches, and more.

It will be a fun day outside and a great way to do your part to make the Big Apple shine. We hope you will join in the effort to help this worthy cause! Feel free to bring friends and family members - they do not have to be UGA alumni.

Dallas/Ft. Worth SPCA Strut Your Mutt

Join the Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter of the UGA Alumni Association for the 2013 Strut Your Mutt event to fight animal cruelty. We will be participating in the Texas SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) 75th Anniversary Celebration, which offers several fun activities for the whole family.

This year's SPCA anniversary celebration includes both a family- and pet-friendly 3K job and a timed 5K run. The DFW Chapter will participate in the 3K Dog Walk, but individuals are welcome to run the 5K if they prefer.

Enjoy delicious food in the Hos-PAW-tality Area, cheer on four-legged champs at the agility course, or just bring the family out for a good time among fellow alumni and friends.

All proceeds go toward raising $200,000 for the SPCA of Texas and their life-saving rescue shelter programs. Show the Dallas/Fort Worth area your Bulldog spirit and register today! See you then!

Raleigh Rebuilding Together Workshop

Our 7th event in the Triangle area will be combining the needs of troubled teenage girls with rescued horses. CORRAL, located in Cary, offers at-risk girls riding lessons, therapy, mentoring, tutoring and a chance to bond with horses, which provides them with the tools necessary to overcome the challenges they face. The organization also helps abused or mistreated horses by adopting them into the program, giving them a good home and the care they deserve.

The New Media Institute in the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication is dedicated to exploring the critical, commercial, and creative dimensions of innovative digital media technology.

Currently, the NMI focuses on personal media: mobile, social, and gaming. Coming from any major, NMI students can receive a New Media Certificate attesting that they are technowledgeable – they know how to apply new media in their chosen field. Each semester, about ten teams of NMI students develop new media products, systems, and approaches for client organizations. Committed to innovative and realistic new media applications, NMI projects address real world demands in a variety of contexts.

Volunteers are needed for two Alumni Association events taking place on campus during 2013 Spring Commencement week: the inaugural Commencement Celebration on Wednesday, May 8 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and the Welcome at the Arch on Friday, May 10 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

All volunteers will receive the official UGA Alumni T-shirt. Please note that volunteers will be standing for most of these events. Volunteers must be 18+.

Commencement Celebration (May 8 - 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.) The Alumni Association is hosting a special graduation party in the Tate Student Center Plaza on campus, and needs your help handing out giveaways, providing information to graduates about alumni chapters, and assisting with graduate contact information updates.

Welcome at the Arch (May 10 - 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; 2-hour shifts) The Alumni Association will welcome graduates and their families to the Arch and other key landmarks on campus with bottled water and information about staying connected after graduation. Volunteers are needed to hand out water and share some Bulldog spirit with UGA's newest graduates! Two-hour shifts are available during this event.

San Francisco Giants vs. Braves Baseball Game

It's finally baseball season!

Enjoy a fun evening with the San Francisco Chapter of the UGA Alumni Association as the Atlanta Braves take on the Giants at AT&T Park.

Meet fellow alumni prior to the game at Pete's Tavern across the street from the ballpark (128 King Street). We will meet around 6:00 p.m. and then walk to the game together.

Volunteers are needed for two Alumni Association events taking place on campus during 2013 Spring Commencement week: the inaugural Commencement Celebration on Wednesday, May 8 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and the Welcome at the Arch on Friday, May 10 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

All volunteers will receive the official UGA Alumni T-shirt. Please note that volunteers will be standing for most of these events. Volunteers must be 18+.

Commencement Celebration (May 8 - 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.) The Alumni Association is hosting a special graduation party in the Tate Student Center Plaza on campus, and needs your help handing out giveaways, providing information to graduates about alumni chapters, and assisting with graduate contact information updates.

Welcome at the Arch (May 10 - 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; 2-hour shifts) The Alumni Association will welcome graduates and their families to the Arch and other key landmarks on campus with bottled water and information about staying connected after graduation. Volunteers are needed to hand out water and share some Bulldog spirit with UGA's newest graduates! Two-hour shifts are available during this event.

Metro Atlanta BeltLine Clean Up

The Metro Atlanta Chapter has adopted the East Side Trail segment of the Atlanta BeltLine and needs your help to make it beautiful! This volunteer project will involve removing trash and invasive species from the site. Clean-up will end between noon and 1:00 p.m., depending on the number of volunteers participating. Water and light snacks will be provided. Please bring work gloves if you have them!

What is the Atlanta BeltLine? From the Atlanta BeltLine website:
This sustainable project is providing a network of public parks, multi-use trails and transit by reusing 22 miles of historic railroad corridors circling downtown and connecting 45 neighborhoods to each other.

Asheville Clean Streams Day

Celebrate Clean Streams Day in Asheville by joining local UGA alumni and friends for a river cleanup on Saturday, May 18.

The chapter will gather at the Swannanoa River at 9 a.m. and spend approximately four hours cleaning up the riverbanks. Afterward, the group will head to Appalachian Vintner to relax after a hard day’s work.

Join UGA College of Environment and Design Dean Daniel Nadenicek and Georgia Tech Professor Emeritus Doug Allen (BLA '71) for a group tour of the National September 11 Memorial on Saturday, May 18.

The National September 11 Memorial is a tribute to the nearly 3,000 people killed in the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, at the World Trade Center site, near Shanksville, Pa., and at the Pentagon, as well as the six people killed in the World Trade Center bombing in February 1993.

This special tour will discuss the international competition held in 2003 to select a design for the memorial. One of Allen’s former students, Michael Arad, won the design award for the memorial from more than 5,200 entries.

David Vaughan (AB '84), owner of the largest personal collection of Civil War photographs, will lead a private tour of the "Civil War and American Art" exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The exhibit explores how American artists responded to the Civil War and its aftermath, and features works by leading figure painters Winslow Homer and Eastman Johnson, landscape painters Sanford R. Gifford and Frederic E. Church, and photographers Mathew Brady and George Barnard. A portion of Vaughan's collection is included in the exhibit.
