I don't live in Athens and thus cannot take advantage of
Athens-area discounts. Why should I join the Alumni Association?
Membership in the Alumni Association offers exclusive invitations to events in your local area, and many national discounts, benefits, and services. Since the Alumni Association does not receive state funding for operating costs and programming, dues are necessary to fund all Alumni Association sponsored campus activities, alumni chapter events across the country, student programs, an Alumni Association endowed scholarship, a fellowship through the Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities (CURO), and a student study abroad opportunity.
In addition, membership is an investment. Association membership participation rates are used in the determination of UGA's national rankings and its ability to secure funding and grants, which directly impacts UGA's academic reputation and ultimately the value of your degree.
I am not a graduate of the University of Georgia. Am I
permitted to join the Alumni Association?
Yes. The UGA Alumni Association welcomes fans or former residents of Georgia who take pride in being an “adopted dawg.” The Association does not require members to be graduates of the University.
I already attend activities like football game watching parties,
receptions and group outings for free. Why should I pay to
join the Association?
Alumni Association membership dues make alumni programs in your local area possible. These dues allow the Association to make each event successful and well-attended by providing invitations, supplies, staff assistance, etc.
Furthermore, your dues allow the Alumni Association to help strengthen and support a growing list of exceptional UGA programs. From student activities like Convocation and First Friday, to engaging annual campus events such as the Association-sponsored Founder’s Day Lecture, the UGA Alumni Association supports the best interests and traditions of UGA.
How do I become a member of the Alumni Association?
To join the Alumni Association, prospective members should visit the Membership Web Site at www.alumni.uga.edu/alumni/join.html or they can call the Association directly at 1-800-606-8786.
How does my membership assist current UGA students?
Membership dues help to strengthen and support a growing list of exceptional UGA student programs and networking opportunities like Convocation, the Founder's Day Lecture, the official Ring Ceremony, Dinner with a Dozen Dawgs, an Alumni Association endowed scholarship, a summer fellowship program through the Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities (CURO), and a student study abroad opportunity. Campus organizations can also apply for grants from the Association's Campus Support Fund. This allows students to participate in many events and programs that would not be possible without financial assistance from the Alumni Association.
The Alumni Association also has a student membership program. Student members are able to network with alumni and other students, receive career counseling, attend Alumni Association events and access the UGA Online Community.
I just wrote a check to the Annual Fund. This means I've
paid my Alumni Association dues, right?
No, the Annual Fund and the Alumni Association are separate entities. Making a gift to the Annual Fund does not mean you have joined the Alumni Association.
The Board of Directors of the former Georgia Alumni Society voted in 1996 to become a dues-based organization, now known as The University of Georgia Alumni Association, and as such no longer receives funding from The University of Georgia Foundation. The Alumni Association’s many programs and services are funded entirely by the dues paid by our active members.
As a member of the Alumni Association, will I have priority
in buying football tickets?
No, the UGA Athletic Association handles all Athletic ticket distribution and the Alumni Association has no involvement in ticket sales or priority.
I think I am already a member of the Alumni Association.
