    UGA Fact Sheet: 2007-2008

    Freshman Class

  • The 2007 freshman class of approximately 4,800 students is the most academically qualified in UGA history, with an average 1242 SAT and a 3.77 GPA. There were more than 17,000 applicants in the pool.
  •  

    Honors Program

  • The Honors Program average GPA is 4.0 and the average SAT is 1450.
  •  

    Academic Scholarships

  • In the past 10 years, UGA students have won almost 50 national academic scholarships including the Rhodes, Marshall, Truman, Gates-Cambridge and Goldwater Scholarship.
  •  

    Best Colleges

  • UGA was ranked 20th among public universities in the U.S. News & World Report "Best Colleges" issue. U.S. News has ranked UGA 22nd or better for nine years in a row.
  •  

    Study Abroad

  • Almost 30% of the 2007 graduating class had a residential study abroad experience, ranking UGA 8th in the nation.

    NBAF

  • Georgia and UGA are on the list of five finalists for the location of the National Bio- and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF). The proposed NBAF will be the federal government's premier facility for addressing threats to human health through animal-borne disease including West Nile and avian flu, among others. NBAF will cost $500 million in construction and employ approximately 300 highly educated researchers and technicians.

    Contributions

  • UGA's supporters have contributed more than $210 million to the University in the past two years. The Archway to Excellence campaign surpassed its $500 million goal in the spring, 15 months ahead of schedule. The total now stands at approximately $560 million.
  •  

    Budget

  • UGA's budget for FY08 is $1.3 billion. This means UGA is a $3.5 million dollar a day business. Of the $1.3 billion, the University receives approximately $400 million directly from the state. The remaining portion is gained through fundraising and contributions.
