Alumni and friends gathered together Nov. 1 for the Annual Homecoming BBQ at the Wray-Nicholson House. Guests enjoyed Sonny's BBQ and music entertainment from John Dunn and the Jazzmen while little bulldog fans received face tattoos, played games and enjoyed the Moonwalk. Fellow UGA alumni who work at Turner Corporate gathered Oct. 25 at the Globe in Atlanta and had a great time at the UGA Alumni Association Red & Black Alliance for the Turner Corp. Special guests Horace Newcomb, director of the Peabody Awards and Dr. Scott Shamp '81, '83 director of the New Media Institute attended.

 
 
 
 
 


Alumni gathered at Swoozie's, a specialty store for printing, paper, & pizzazz, for an exclusive shopping event on October 24.

 
 
 
 
 


State Representative Doug McKillip '91, '94 was the guest host of the October 23 Bulldog Breakfast Club at the Wray-Nicholson House.

 
 
 
 
 


The UGA Alumni Association visited to Hull-Sanford Elementary School in Athens Ga. and presented gifts of appreciation to all the teachers who are UGA graduates.

 
 
 
 
 


Probate Judge Julia Lumpkin '82, '85, '90 stands with U.S. Representative Lynn A. Westmoreland, who serves Georgia's 3rd district, at the renaming of the main U.S. Post Office in Columbus after Frank G. Lumpkin, Jr. '31. Lumpkin was the 1980 recipient of the Association's Alumni Merit Award.

   
 
 
 
 
 


Student Alumni Association members received a special gift before fall break - a free "BEAT FLORIDA" t-shirt, so student members could take their Georgia pride to Jacksonville where the Bulldogs were victorious.

 
 
 
 
 


The UGA Alumni Association launched its new Educator Appreciation program at Clay Elementary School in Powder Springs, Ga. Oct. 17 and gave out gifts of gratitude to all the educators who are UGA graduates. Both Heidi Hunt and Sandra Mitchell received gifts. Heidi Hunt '92 has been an Art teacher at Clay for 16 years. Sandra (Comeau) Mitchell (BSEH '99, MEd '01) taught special education for three years at Clay. Sandra was a Georgia Girl, and met her husband, football player LaBrone Mitchell, while they were both at UGA.

    
 
 
 
 
 


Allen's has been an Athens institution since 1955 and its charcoal grilled hamburgers and steak-sandwiches are back! Alumni and friends gathered at the new Allen's location for food and fun Oct. 16 to celebrate the reopening at its new location.

 
 
 
 
 


The UGA Student Alumni Council gathered at UGA Alumni Association Executive Director Deborah Dietzler's house Oct. 14 and worked on their homecoming float and carved pumpkins for Halloween decorations at the Wray-Nicholson.

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 


The UGA Alumni Association Multicultural Programs held its annual game watching party at Dave and Buster's in Duluth,Ga. where UGA alumni and friends cheered on the Bulldogs as they took on the Tennessee Volunteers.

 
 
 
 
 


Bob Taylor, associate executive director for Communications, UGA Alumni Association presented Coach Manuel Diaz with a Proclamation from the Association to the Men's Tennis Team for winning the SEC and National Championships.

    
 
 
 
 
 


The UGA Alumni Association hosted alumni and friends at a special event in honor of poet Natasha Trethewey '89, who recently won the 2007 Pulitzer Prize in Poetry for her recent collection, "Native Guard" (Houghton Mifflin 2006).

 
 
 
 
 


The official Club Kick-Off for the Panhandle Alumni Association took place in August and was attended by an enthusiastic crowd. Additionally the volunteers from the Panhandle Alumni Club raised over $12,000 for the local PBS TV station.

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 


The UGA Alumni Association and the UGA Bookstore presented the fourth annual Faculty and Staff Authors' Reception at the UGA Bookstore. The reception provides an opportunity for faculty or staff who have purchased books in the 24 months leading up to the event to showcase their work.

  
 
 
 
 
 


The UGA Alumni Association visited Whitefield Academy in Mableton, Ga. and presented gifts of appreciation to all the teachers who are UGA graduates.

 
 
 
 
 


Each year the Association proudly participates in the Parents and Families Weekend. This year, the following new Student Alumni Association members enjoyed the weekend, Abigail Flloyd '11, Chris Lippert '11, Haley Adams '11, Matthew McClure '11, Heather Atcherson '11, Tyler Durden '11 and Kiara Wood '11. Debbie Griffiths was the winner of the Association's giveaway.

 
 
 
 
 


Rev. Claude McBride '55, Alumni Association Consultant, was the guest host of the October 23 Bulldog Breakfast Club at the Wray-Nicholson House.

 
 
 
 
 


First Friday: Day with the Dawgs was a day long celebration to fire up the dogs. The day began with a Bulldog Breakfast Club with hosts Coach Mark Richt and former football players David Jacobs '06 and Matt Stinchcomb '98. At the end of the breakfast, the special guests posed for pictures with fans. Coach Richt took pictures with the UGA Alumni Association Student Alumni Councel and the UGA Alumni Association staff. Later, Damon Evans '92, '94 handed out spirit items at Tate and Loran Smith '62 and Dan Magill autographed books inside the UGA Bookstore. The event-filled day closed with an evening Pep Rally at Tate Plaza that included Hairy Dog, the UGA Pep Band, Cheerleaders and guest emcee Gil Tyree. There were great giveaways including a Ga/Fl Weekend package with two tickets to the game and airfare, a getaway trip to Jekyll Island and much more!

Throughout the summer, the UGA Student Alumni Association was present at student orientation where hundreds of incoming students joined the UGA Student Alumni Association.

 
 
 
 
 


UGA Alumni Association Student Alumni Council members started off the year with a day long orientation to get to know one another and learn about their role as representatives of the UGA Alumni Association and the Student Alumni Association. Deborah Dietzler, UGA Alumni Association executive director presented each member with a gift as a welcome.

 
 
 
 
 


UGA Alumni Association past president Dink NeSmith '70 recently marked the inaugural Fanning Day by giving two engraved granite benches in honor of dear friends J.W. and Cora Lee Fanning. The late UGA Vice President J.W. Members of the UGA Alumni Association Fulton County Chapter played a role in the "Save Our Skin - Skin Cancer Awareness 5K Walk/Run" hosted by the Skin Cancer Awareness Network (SCAN). Marilyn Fry '70, Atlanta alumna and melanoma survivor is the founder and CEO of the SCAN Foundation.
