Tree Farmers of the Year
Congratulations to Chuck '77 and Beth '86,'90 Williams of Watkinsville who were named Georgia's 2005 Tree Farmers of the Year by the American Tree Farm System. A native of Oconee County, Williams offered praise to The Georgia Forestry Commission, "Their technical knowledge, support and educational help have really made a big difference. I'd like to think that all awards aside, we'll ultimately be judged by whether we left the land better than we found it. If we do that, we'll have been successful as owners. We look at this from a stewardship perspective; that aspect is really important to us."

Hurricane Katrina Victims Respond to 'Classic City for the Crescent City' Relief Effort
Hi, I am a UGA alum, and I just wanted to take the time to thank you for contributing in getting the word out about 'Classic City for the Crescent City.' I have lived in New Orleans for the past three years (in graduate school, after getting my undergrad at UGA- class of '01). I lost everything in the flooding which happened as a result of Hurricane Katrina. On behalf of an entire city of individuals who are suffering from this natural disaster, I wanted to let UGA know I greatly appreciate the effort to help us. Thank you so much.
- Ree Reinhardt '01 B.S.W.

As a UGA alum, I am proud that my university is doing this. As a Louisiana resident who has been and will continue to be impacted by this tragedy, I am most grateful. We have already donated locally, but I thank you for your neighborly, "truly southern" compassion.
- Jeanette P. Parker, Ed.D., UGA, 1979

As an alum and a New Orleans resident, thank you for all of your efforts to help. Anything you can do is greatly appreciated and needed.
- Becky Brignac, Class of 1999

Thank you. I am a member of the class of 1967 and live in Baton Rouge. For 12 years, I lived in New Orleans next to Tulane. Thank you for your concern.
-Anonymous

I am a resident of Gretna, LA, just across from New Orleans. We have evacuated and can only contact folks via email due to cell phone towers being down. Please thank everyone there for their efforts!
-Yours,
Joy Mullane UGA class of 1999
Go Dawgs!

UGA Alums to host reception honoring Donald and Louise Hollowell
with CURO Apprenticeship

Donald Hollowell was an eloquent civil rights lawyer who led the legal team to integrate the University over 40 years ago and fought many other crucial civil rights battles. The Center for Undergraduate Research (CURO), housed in the Honors Program, is establishing the Donald and Louise Hollowell Apprenticeship which comes with a stipend and is available to incoming UGA students from historically under-represented minority groups. The apprenticeship allows students to conduct research benefiting the underserved communities in Georgia. This apprenticeship is a well-deserved honor to Mr. & Mrs. Hollowell's legacy. To find out how you can participate in a special reception to raise funds for the apprenticeship, please contact Dorothe Otemann at (706) 583-0698 or dotemann@uga.edu.

Alumni Spotlight: Frank P. Ros '82, '84
Frank P. Ros '82, '84, Team Captain of the University of Georgia's 1980 National Football Champions, Academic All-SEC and past recipient of the University of Georgia Chapter of the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame Post-Graduate Award, currently serves as Assistant Vice President, Latin Affairs for The Coca-Cola Company where he transformed a one-market urban community relations program, Coca-Cola Presents Art of Harmony, into a nine-market, nationally recognized and award-winning property. This is one step towards his new goal and duty to make the company recognized as a leading corporate citizen within the Latino community, an area which he is no stranger.

The Schraff Family
At UGA's Homecoming football game, when former cheerleaders gather to lead the team onto the field, look for the man running out with the big UGA flag, it will probably be Dr. Louis M. Schraff, '55, of Augusta, GA.

For the last several years, Dr. Schraff, the Staff Physician for the Spinal Cord Unit of the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Augusta, has held the duty of running the flag which he calls his "biggest claim to fame." This, from a man who is a prominent, respected physician and a retired Army Colonel, says volumes about his regard for the Bulldogs.

He is one of eight immediate family members who hold degrees from The University of Georgia, and he presently has a grandson who is a freshman at UGA.

The Wray-Nicholson House
One of Athens' most beautiful antebellum homes has served as the headquarters for the UGA Alumni Association since September, 2000. The historic Wray-Nicholson House is ideally located one block from Old North Campus at 298 Hull Street, one block west of Lumpkin, just below the Downtown Holiday Inn. It is one of the oldest structures in Athens-Clarke County.

An outstanding example of Greek Revival Architecture, the House traces its beginning to 1825 when it served as a student dining hall. In 1845, Thomas Wray, an Athens businessman, acquired the property which bordered the University of Georgia campus and made significant architectural improvements that resulted in a spacious private residence.

John W. Nicholson purchased the home in 1867 and made extensive improvements including the addition of the two-tiered porches. These were replaced during renovation in 1916 by the present impressive portico which features six giant Doric columns that were removed from an antebellum mansion on Prince Avenue. The Nicholson family retained ownership for nearly 100 years.
