Coach of the Year Contest
One college football coach in the U.S. will be crowned the inaugural Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year on December 16, and your Dawg pride can help Coach Mark Richt rise above the rest. The Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year is awarded to the college football coach who most embodies the characteristics of responsibility and excellence on and off the field. Alumna Receives Public Service Award
Elizabeth Ann Tabor '71, Non-Profit Practice Group Partner and Leader at Cherry, Bekaert and Holland, received the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants 2006 Public Service Award, which is one of only four annual awards given by the GSCPA.
Alumnus Receives Distinguished Service Award
Dr. David T. Marshall '80, North Carolina's State Veterinarian, was recently honored with the NC Poultry Federation's coveted 2006 Distinguished Service Award as a special part of the Federation's 39th Annual Meeting.

During the UGA Alumni Association's Kennel Club contest your dog could take home the title in one of these five catergories: Best Bulldog,
Dawg-gone Good Name (dogs named after anything UGA affiliated), Most Georgia Pride, and/or Top Dawg (oldest living UGA-pride dog). Alumna Spearheads Pancreatic Cancer Awareness in Atlanta
After her grandfather died from pancreatic cancer, Brittany Black '05 founded Atlanta Team Hope, the area's first local affiliate of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. Black and more than 30 members will walk on September 23 for the Atlanta Team Hope Walk in Piedmont Park to raise money for pancreatic cancer research and awareness. Kermit the Frog Helps UGA Alumna Raise Money
Cheri Wranosky '84, Art Director for the Georgia Magazine, enlisted her good friend Kermit the Frog to help raise money for Athens Canine Rescue by going on "Kermit's Excellent Adventure" around the city of Athens. Last month the UGA Alumni Association welcomed its new board and executive committee members, but omitted to include Rupa Patel '05. Patel is former president of the Student Alumni Council and the Association is thrilled to welcome her to its board. She is currently pursuing an MBA/MPA at the University of Alabama, Birmingham.

Alumni Spotlight: Sheryl M. Merritt '88
After graduating with a bachelor of science degree in Home Economics, Sheryl M. Merritt '88 joined Macy's Executive Training Program and worked for AT&T Network Systems in Engineering and Training. Desiring to be a part of Atlanta's burgeoning entertainment industry, Merritt switched gears and began working as Executive Assistant to the GM of Radio One of Atlanta's Hot 97.5 radio station. After a few years in radio, she moved to the record label side of the business and worked as Executive Assistant to Rico Wade, CEO of Organized Noize Productions, where she learned studio management, production and A&R.

UGA's Greatest Generation
In an effort to recognize the "Greatest Generation" World War II veterans, the UGA Alumni Association is sponsoring a special project which will include collecting "war stories" from alumni, staff, and faculty who have personal memories from the war years. If you have a memory you would like included in this project, please send it via email to Claude McBride '55 or mail to Claude McBride, UGA Alumni Association, Wray-Nicholson House, 298 Hull St., Athens, GA 30602.
Harold Storey
Two years after graduation, Harold Storey '43 was in Europe involved in one of the strategic battles of World War II, The Battle of the Bulge. Storey's account of combat during the worst winter on record is featured in Tom Brokaw's book, An Album of Memories - Personal Histories from the Greatest Generation. Storey wrote to friends describing his experiences beginning in the late fall of 1944. Storey explains in Brokaw's book that the letter was written to partly express his gratitude for life, for his faith, and for the measure of peace that he has experienced.

Mr. Angel
