*LOST RING
In December 2003, Chad Oliver '03 and Bradford Swann '03 with some of Chad's workmates from WDTV Channel 5 in Clarksburg, West Virginia were enjoying a skiing weekend at Snow Shoe Mountain. While there, Chad spent a part of this time digging Bradford's car out of the snow and lost his UGA class ring in the parking lot.
In June 2004, Paul Barker was working construction at the Snow Shoe Mountain resort, and in a grassy area near the mountain lodge he found Oliver's UGA class ring. He held on to it for a couple of months, intending to get it back to its owner. Paul finally called the Alumni Association in August to see if we could help locate the owner. Chad was located on his cell phone by the Alumni Association. He was thrilled to get the news of his lost ring. He was sure that he would never see it again.
If you find a UGA class ring and would like to return it to its rightful owner, contact Alice Vernon or the UGA Alumni Association at 1-800-606-8786.
*GWINNETT GRADUATION
The Alumni Association sponsored the Graduation Celebration at UGA at Gwinnett. On Thursday August 5th, two days before summer semester graduation in Athens, many graduating students joined their family members and faculty and staff members from the Gwinnett campus for a breakfast to celebrate their graduation. The Alumni Association congratulates all of the 2004 UGA graduates!!
*UGA ALUMNI ASSOCIATION PROCLAMATIONS
On August 14 Tom Rodgers '67, '69, long-time UGA administrator and Georgia 4-H Foundation leader, was recognized with the 4-H Lifetime Achievement Award at the Centennial Gala in Atlanta. Deborah Dietzler, Interim Executive Director, presented Tom with a proclamation acknowledging his outstanding service and loyalty to the University of Georgia. Rodgers will retire this year from his position as Associate Dean for Outreach and Extension in the UGA College of Family and Consumer Sciences, where he has served since 2001.
The Redcoat Band never rests! Sophomore, Hope Carrell '07 was presented a proclamation from the UGA Alumni Association this past month for capturing the Grand National Collegiate Twirling Championship in North Bend, Indiana this summer. Hope won the competition against all odds, as she spent the last year undergoing extensive physical therapy after surgery on her arm. "It really meant a great deal to me to be able to compete again after the surgery," Hope said. "I was thrilled to win, because it was just wonderful to be able to once again be in the competition."

*THE TERESHINSKIS, A FOOTBALL LEGACY
When football season arrives and you think about UGA alumni legacies, you think Tereshinski.
|
|
Joe Tereshinski Sr., Jr. and III
|
Joe Tereshinski III, who plays back-up quarterback and other positions for the Georgia varsity football team, is a third generation bulldog. Friends and other players call him "Joe T. Three."
His father, Joe Tereshinski, Jr., '77, played '72-'76, was starting center on the l975 Cotton Bowl team and was offensive team captain of the 1976 SEC Champion Sugar Bowl team. He is currently an Assistant Coach for the Bulldogs.
His grandfather, Joe Tereshinski, Sr.,'46, began his bulldog career in 1942, and was an All-SEC performer on the 1946 undefeated National Championship team.
Joe T. III is following in the steps of his grandfather and father, but he has a challenging role to fill. During his playing career, Joe Jr. was recipient of the Coffee County Hustle Award, the Wallace Butts Memorial award, the Hugh Hendrix Memorial award and the Wally Butts Family scholarship.
The young back-up quarterback is off to a good start. He has already recieved the Scott and Elizabeth Kelly Endowed football scholarship and played in 10 games last season as a redshirt freshman. One of the Bulldogs most versatile players, he not only played back-up quarterback, but was a member of special teams and served as the snapper in the opening game against Clemson in 2003.
Joe T. III was a high school All-American at Athens Academy his senior year and was named All-State his junior and senior years. Highly recruited, he passed for over 5,000 yards in his high school career and graduated with a 3.93 GPA.
Many observers say Joe. T. III could be a starting quarterback this year on many major college teams. Does he regret signing with the Bulldogs where he finds himself in a back-up role at that position?
"Not at all." says Tereshinski, "I'm happy where I'm at." And what does he think about the 2004 Georgia Bulldogs? "We've got a shot at the national championship," he says.
His mother, the former Cathleen Givens,'76, is an UGA alumna and he has an uncle, Wally Tereshinski,'77, (named for Wally Butts), who played at Georgia in the seventies.
Claude McBride '55, former UGA Alumni Association Tour Director, is a veritable repository of campus lore and is now assisting us in writing Legacy stories as well as a wonderful new column entitled "Claude's Campus Candids."
If you have an interesting campus candid or legacy story please e-mail Claude at cmcbride@uga.edu.
