My son, Matthew Bolen '01, is presently stationed in Baghdad, Iraq. He is a 2nd Lieutenant with the Army's 3rd Infantry Division, Engineering Battalion, from Ft. Benning, Georgia. Matthew graduated from UGA with a B.S. degree in Geography. I am so very proud of him and all that he is doing for our country, as well as all of the wonderful, dedicated soldiers serving in Iraq. I work at UGA in the Honors Program as an academic advisor. Thank you for this great web site.
-Judy Bolen

I would like to first say that I thought that it is a great gesture that there has been a page put together for the public to view of the UGA Alumni and current students that are involved in the conflict overseas. I think that it is a very noble gesture to at least recognize these great brothers and sisters of ours that have gone out of their way to risk their lives for this country and the well being of the citizens of the countries that we are occupying over there. It goes without saying that these humans have given up any sort of selfishness to put their lives on the line or already have lost their lives for the rest of us and it says a lot about the type of people that they are and were. I again appreciate the time that someone took to put their pictures and stories online for others to read and share and think about because so many of these wonderful people do go unrecognized. I especially feel this way because I recently lost my father to a tragic (but not war-related) death this past August 9th, 2004. He was a valued member of the Dept. of Defense as a civilian for 32 years. Before his civilian time he was an officer in the Army... I will always live my life in hopes that people will remember what my father did for the nation, it was his life and he made it mine as well. I'm proud to be an American.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is just a simple thank you for recognizing these ordinary people, people much like my dad, so that others can be thankful for them.

Thanks again,
-Julie Ann Whitelaw
