*Atlanta 2-Day Walk
Join the UGA Alumni DAWGS Team for the Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer on September 16th and 17th. Founded by two-time breast cancer survivor and UGA parent Randi Passoff the Atlanta 2-Day Walk raises money that stays in Atlanta for breast cancer support, research, financial assistance and awareness programs.

Weighing 6lbs. 2oz. Taylor Abrielle Neuman "Abby" was born January 06, to Tammy Luke '03, BS and her fiancé Dan. Abby is the couple's first child.

The UGA Alumni Association would like to make a correction to a Baby Bulldog announcement from the April E-newsletter. James and Christa Orion (Piper) Rooks '04 welcomed Noah James Rooks into the world on March 23, 2005. He weighed 7lbs. 10oz. and is the couple's first child not the younger brother to sister Ava as previously reported.

Hosts Needed for Dinner with a Dozen Dawgs
The UGA Alumni Association is seeking individuals interested in opening his or her home to host a small dinner for a party and participate in the highly popular Dinner with a Dozen Dawgs, formerly called Dinner with 12 Strangers, program which personalizes the UGA experience for students, faculty and fellow alumni. Recent hosts include Alumni Association Executive Director of Membership and the Atlanta Center Diane Johnson '82 and owner of the Jailhouse Rock Café Derry Drake '92. J. Willard Whitson '72 recently received the position of Vice President of Please Touch Museum, Memorial Hall, Exhibits in Philadelphia. Whitson received his Master of Fine Arts from the University of Georgia.

The UGA Alumni Association, the UGA Career Center and Terry College of Business proudly present the first alumni Career Fair on Tuesday, June 6 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Cobb Galleria Centre in Atlanta. Over 35 area employers are currently registered including ADP, Ameriprise Financial Services, Inc., Amli Residential, Genuine Parts Company and Universal Tax Systems, Inc. Employers interested in attending and meeting high caliber Bulldog talent, register online. *CURO Summer Research Fellowship Recepient
The UGA Alumni Association is honored to sponsor a 2006 Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities Summer Research Fellowship this upcoming summer. The winner of the Fellowship, Adele D. Handy '07, is a psychology major, a Foundation Fellow of the Honors Program and has been a Presidential Scholar for three semesters while at UGA. Because Adele is interested in pursuing a MD-PhD degree, her extensive interest in laboratory research in the Chemistry department will be made possible. Adele's faculty mentor is Dr. Gregory Robinson, who is thrilled that Adele will be continuing the research she has been involved in this past academic year in gaining knowledge about a new compound called galepene.

The Redcoat Band Marches to China

The UGA Alumni Association is proud to sponsor and support the UGA Redcoat Marching Band's upcoming two-week concert tour of China beginning May 15. The Redcoat Band received a special invitation from the U.S. China Cultural and Educational Foundation.
 
Missing Alumnus Inspires Novel
After missing for two days in the North Woods of Minnesota, a search for Daniel P. Stephens '99 was agreed to by the Canadian Mounties. Stephens, a canoe guide to the Boy Scouts for the summer, survived the wilderness and walked over 30 miles, only for the Mounties not to find him, but for Stephens to find them just when the search was about to be abandoned. Cary J. Griffith tells Stephens' tale in the newly released novel, "Lost in the Wild: Danger and Survival in the North Woods". Stephens currently lives in Atlanta with his wife Courtney Chambless. Thanks to his older brother Dan who brought this story to the Association's attention.

 
Association Recognizes Coach Mark Richt
On March 10, the UGA Alumni Association presented Coach Mark Richt with a framed Atlanta Journal Constitution article and advertisement the Association placed in the paper congratulating the team on its SEC Championship.


 
Alumni Plaque
A plaque honoring past leaders of the UGA Alumni Society and Alumni Association is now on display in the Wray-Nicholson House. Abit Massey '49 had a particular interest in this project, since his brother, Dyar E. Massey, Jr. '37, '38 served as alumni secretary in the early 1940's. The UGA Alumni Association thanks Abit and Kayanne Massey for financially sponsoring this project.

Alumnus Honored for
30 Years of Service

In February 2006, William R. Ansley '70 celebrated 30 years of service as a pharmacist with the US Army Civil Service. Bill's service to his country and profession was honored at a ceremony in San Antonio, Texas, and the Alumni Association sent a proclamation acknowledging his outstanding performance and leadership.

*"Workin' Like a Dawg" Breakfast Success
Approximately 130 alumni attended the 8th annual UGA Alumni Employees "Workin' Like a Dawg" Breakfast at the Georgia Center. Service pins were given to alumni who have served UGA for 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 years. A grand prize drawing was held for Sky Suite tickets for the Western Kentucky football game. Terry College 2006 Alumni Awards Banquet
The Terry College Office of Development & Alumni Relations will host its annual Alumni Awards Banquet on Wednesday, May 17, at the Terry College Executive Education Center in Buckhead. This year's Distinguished Alumni Award winners to be honored are Joe E. Beverly '63 BBA,'64 MBA, J. Paul Holmes'63 BBA, and Leo F. Wells '67 BBA. This year's Outstanding Young Alumni Award winner is Richard W. Courts IV '95 BBA. Contact the Terry Alumni Relations Office for more information.

Housing and Food Services Bicentennial
In celebration of the bicentennial celebration of the Department of University Housing and UGA Food Services, these departments are teaming up with the UGA Alumni Association to collect stories to include in a special publication. Spalding Legacy
John Phinizy Spalding is a fifth generation UGA alumnus with family ties that reach back to 1811. The Vice President and Assistant General Manager of Cox Communications in Atlanta, John Spalding earned his A.B. degree in 1982 and graduated from the UGA School of Law in 1985. His father, Jack Spalding, '36 was editor of the Atlanta Journal and John's grandfather, Hughes Spalding '10 was a charter member of the UGA Foundation and a member of Gridiron. John's mother was the former Anne Gowan, daughter of Charles Gowan '25 who was from Brunswick and served in the Georgia House of Representatives for 20 years, was a member of the UGA Foundation and spent his last professional days with the King and Spalding Law firm in Atlanta.

Spring Gala Success
Nearly 50 members attended the Gala dressed in their best attire and enjoyed an elegant evening celebrating the past year's accomplishments. The students gained important life insights from CNN en Espanol anchor, Alberto Padilla.

Multicultural Alumni Conference
Alumni from as far back as 1966 participated in the conference held at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education. Olivia Maupin '79 stated, "This was the best experience I've had in connection with UGA in 26 years!" The conference offered many helpful sessions including a powerful panel discussion commemorating the 45th anniversary of UGA's desegregation. A special thanks to the Pamoja Singers and the Reunion Planning Committee Members which included, C. Gail Lewis '81, Teresa Babers '82, Larry Calhoun '79, Tony Rucker '75, Jacqueline Kinchen Bunn '87, Olivia Maupin '79 and Oz Roberts '82.
