*2007 UGA Relay for Life
UGA Relay for Life is April 27-28 at the Spec Towns Track. With more than 220 college relays held each year, UGA's has been #1 for seven years in a row. UGA currently has 13 American Cancer Society college scholarship recipients who have survived childhood cancer. Scholarships are made possible through money raised at Relay for Life. Alumni can donate online by clicking here. Click on Kintera Online Fundraising and on the left side, click on GENERAL DONATION to make a secure credit card donation. Alumni can also purchase luminaries in Honor or in Memory of a loved one to be lit the night of Relay.

UGA H.E.R.O.s Dinner
UGA H.E.R.O.s, founded by Garrett Gravesen '03 and Ryan Gembala '03, presents an exclusive Dinner and Garden Tour, Thursday, April 26 to benefit H.E.R.O for Children, Georgia's only non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for children infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS. Open enrollment for the UGA Alumni Association Student Alumni Council (SAC) is March 1 - April 30. Students desiring a chance to enhance their leadership skills and represent both their student body and UGA alumni are encouraged to apply.
*T-shirt Giveaway and Stuffed Toy Drive
Become a Student Alumni Association member, renew your membership, enter the monthly prize drawing and pick up a FREE T-shirt when you visit the UGA Student Alumni Association (SAA) table at the Tate Center Plaza on Wednesday, April 17 from 10:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. SAA will also be collecting stuffed toys to benefit the children cared for at the Northeast Georgia Sexual Assault Center.
*Ring Ceremony
The UGA Alumni Association's Spring Ring Ceremony will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, April 22, at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education in Mahler Auditorium. Students will be presented with their rings which were ordered during the fall and spring. Reception will follow. Parents and guests are encouraged to attend.

The UGA Alumni Association and a group of seniors have formed SoloSENIORS to foster interaction and networking among mature single professionals. The group is open to unmarried men and women at least 50 years of age who are members of the UGA Alumni Association.

Thelma Monique (Nikki) Panton, a former Patricia Harris Roberts Fellow at the University of Georgia School of Social Work, is the first African American to be elected by her peers to lead the St. Luke's Community student governing body. A middler at the University of the South's School of Theology, Panton will oversee issues and activities affecting the 94 seminarians that worship, study and live in Sewanee, TN.

*Alumni Association Stuffed Toy Drive April is Sexual Assault Awareness month and in recognition, the UGA Alumni Association is holding a stuffed toy drive to benefit children cared for at the Sexual Assault Center of Northeast Georgia. Augusta Area Chapter Kick-off Success More than 100 local UGA graduates and friends attended the Feb. 22 Augusta Area Chapter Kick-off with guests UGA Alumni Association Executive Director Deborah Dietzler and Association President Swann Seiler '78. Alumni Spotlight Jocelyn Walters-Brannon '95, '98 Certified as an etiquette consultant by the renowned American School of Protocol, Jocelyn Walters-Brannon '95, '98 currently serves as director of the Palmetto School of Protocol, a division of her professional services firm, CHARM Communications, LLC. She has coordinated training for education professionals about how to effectively interact and communicate with elected officials and their staffs. In this capacity, she has interacted numerous times with America's Congressional units.

Johnson Legacy
One UGA Alumni Association staff member is proud to be a fourth generation UGA alumna.
Susan Johnson, BSED '71, who began her duties as an administrative assistant for the Association January 1, 2007, traces her Bulldog lineage back to her grandfather John Etheridge '26 who graduated with a bachelor's degree in Agriculture.
Etheridge later taught at Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College where he also coached the baseball team. His daughter and Johnson's mother, Ellie Etheridge Hancock '38, '71, received her bachelor's degree in home economics and her master's degree in Education.
UGA's Greatest Generation
In an effort to recognize the "Greatest Generation" World War II veterans, the UGA Alumni Association is sponsoring a special project which will include collecting "war stories" from alumni, staff, and faculty who have personal memories from the war years. Howard Hall '48
Howard Hall '48, is part of an interesting UGA legacy and a member of the Greatest Generation.
After completing his freshman year at North Georgia College in 1943, Hall enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He did his basic training in Mississippi and pre-flight school in Texas. He received his wings as a 19-year-old 2nd Lt. in Altus, OK.
He was assigned to a B-24 heavy bomber crew and was stationed in Lincoln, NE and Topeka, KS before being sent overseas to the American Air Base in Cerignola, Italy.
From there, the crew flew bombing missions to four countries. These bombings preceded the American troops advance into Germany. He was discharged from active service on May 8, 1945 after the war was over in Europe, but stayed in the Air Force Reserves.
