Remember, if it has an asterisk (*) preceding it, your Alumni Association sponsors it!

Attention UGA Alumni Association members - we need your feedback! Being a member of the UGA Alumni Association is a special experience that bonds alumni and those that share a love for the University of Georgia, and we want to hear how being a member of the UGA Alumni Association has benefited you. Let us know anything like, why you became a member, a connection you made through the Association or what Association supported programs you enjoy and attend. You also can tell us about something as simple as your favorite moment at the university, what it means to you to be a UGA graduate, or how another alum helped you find a job and get settled after relocating. Stories selected will be featured in our e-newsletter, as well as in other Alumni Association publications. As an incentive, we are offering a free, complimentary bulldog lapel pin to members whose thoughts, comments, and/or experiences are used. Please contact Brandon Patten '00, Director of Membership, to submit your UGA Alumni Association member story and tell us why you are Proud to Say Georgia! Not a member yet, but want to be, then join today and find out why over 18,000 alumni and friends of UGA support the UGA Alumni Association.

The following is a passage from the experience
Claude Williams, Jr., '44, '48 shared

Following completion of my OCS training at Fort Benning, I was commissioned a Second Lieutenant of Infantry and given two weeks leave with orders to report to Fort Meade, Maryland for shipment to the European Theater of Operations as a replacement officer. I sailed from Boston in early January 1945 aboard the "Santa Rosa." This was a Grace Line cruise ship that had been converted for military troop transport. We traveled in a very large convoy so the trip took nearly two weeks because our speed was determined by the slowest ship and constant changes of course were made to avoid German submarines.

When we arrived off the British Isles our ship went up the English Channel at night to avoid German planes and we disembarked aboard a LST landing craft and went ashore near Le Havre, France. This was a scary experience even though we did not encounter enemy action...

Please visit our Greatest Generation page for the full story.
