Orientation Retreat Wrap Up from SAC President
The Student Alumni Council's (SAC) inaugural orientation was Jan. 13-14 at Rock Eagle 4-H Center. The weekend trip included teambuilding activities, staff presentations, and brainstorming to improve the Student Alumni Association. At the end of the weekend, Executive Director Deborah Dietzler presented members with official UGAAA polo shirts. *Dinner with a Dozen Dawgs and Terry College
The UGA Alumni Association is teaming up with Terry College for Dinner with a Dozen Dawgs with host Bobby Heath '73, '79 on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 6:30 p.m. This event is FREE and open to all students, faculty, staff, and alumni of Terry College. RSVP with Hunter Fleetwood.
*Ring Ceremony
The UGA Alumni Association's Spring Ring Ceremony will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, April 22, at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education in Mahler Auditorium. Students will be presented with their rings which were ordered during the fall and spring. Reception will follow. Parents and guests are encouraged to attend.

The UGA Alumni Association and a group of seniors have formed SoloSENIORS to foster interaction and networking among mature single professionals. The group is open to unmarried men and women at least 50 years of age who are members of the UGA Alumni Association.
SoloSENIORS Night at "CHICAGO the Musical"
The UGA Alumni Association SoloSENIORS Program has reserved a block of discounted tickets to "CHICAGO the Musical" for 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 18 at the Classic Center. Seats are available in the Parterre section for $44 per ticket.

A Fortuitous Diversion: Bill Donaldson, Co-author of "Perfect 10: The UGA GymDogs and the Rise of Women's College Gymnastics in America" Recently released, "Perfect 10" by Suzanne Yoculan and Bill Donaldson '48 is a project that was a long time in the making and one which Donaldson never expected to be a part. Had someone suggested a few years ago that I would co-author the first book on women's college gymnastics, my response would probably have been something like, "Man! what have you been smoking?" . . . Then I met Suzanne Yoculan, the ultra successful coach of the University of Georgia women's gymnastics team.

Thanks to all who submitted their Bulldog Sweetheart stories. Below is an excerpt from the story of Darryl '70 and Diane Johnson '82, UGA Alumni Association Associate Executive Director of Membership and the Atlanta Alumni Center.
Darryl Johnson '70 and Diane Johnson '82 were not at UGA at the same time, but their love of their alma mater was one of the common threads that brought them together. Darryl and Diane's first date was the 1989 Peach Bowl in Atlanta. Darryl and Diane married in 1991.

*Founders' Day Celebrates 222nd Anniversary
On January 25, the UGA Alumni Association and the Emeriti Scholars sponsored the annual Founders' Day Lecture in celebration of the University's 222nd anniversary. In its sixth year, the lecture, "The China Challenge: Outlook for the 21st Century," was given by Emeritus Professor Clifton W. Pannell. 2007 Georgia Junior Miss is a UGA Legacy
Bliss McMichael was selected as the 2007 Georgia's Junior Miss. She plans to attend UGA in the fall and is the daughter of Lisa Bliss BBA '84 and Allen R. McMichael BBA '83; granddaughter of Anna Pollock BA '60 and Dwight (Bucky) Bliss BS '60 and niece of Trey Bliss BBA '89. She will represent the State of Georgia in America's Junior Miss Program in Mobile, AL in June 2007.

Hangin' with the Hoop Dogs
Join fellow multicultural alumni and friends on Saturday, March 3, 2007 for the Hangin' with the Hoop Dogs annual event. The day will start with a Private Reception from 2 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. in the Lobby of the Coverdell Building, followed by the 4 p.m. Men's basketball game against Tennessee at Stegeman Coliseum. The day will end with the annual Free Throw Contest. Cost is $10 ($20 after February 9), and includes Reception and discounted Game ticket. Reception only is $5. Register online.
Alumni Spotlight - Mary Frances Early '62, '67
Mary Frances Early '62, '67 became the first African American student to receive a degree from the University of Georgia and was inducted into the Pi Kappa Lambda National Honor Society. Her pioneering role in the desegregation of UGA was not acknowledged by the University until the screening of the Foot Soldiers for Equal Justice television documentary that included her story.

Thompson Legacy
Claire Thompson, a senior Landscape Architecture major from Winchester, TN, shares a unique Bulldog legacy.
She is one of three children of Mary Claire and William Nordeck Thompson's presently enrolled at UGA with a third planning to arrive next year.
Her mother, the former Mary Claire Pruitt ('82) and her father met while students at UGA. Mary Claire was a cheerleader and Miss UGA Football of 1981.
The family Bulldog heritage goes back to Claire's grandfather, William Nordeck Thompson, Sr. '52 of Mt. Vernon, GA who graduated from UGA along with his brothers Lawrence and Robert, and his sister Elizabeth.

2006 Alumni Leadership Assembly
 
Over 50 Chapter and Club volunteers attended the second annual Alumni Leadership Assembly (ALA) held in Athens, Ga. Jan. 26 - 28. Chapters and Clubs were recognized for their hard work throughout the year.
Inaugural Chapter and Club Awards of Excellence
Known for its Bulldogs and Grits and its efforts with the Dawgs Feeding Dogs Campaign, the Columbus, OH Club received the 2005-06 Club of Excellence Award. The Washington, DC Chapter, also known as the DC Dawgs, was awarded the Chapter of Excellence due to its high activity in the community and participation with events.
Regional Volunteer of the Year
In recoginition of her time and efforts spent, on behalf of UGA, establishing, maintaining and strengthening the local alumni group, Lindsay Moss '00, Washington, DC Chapter president, received the Association's first Regional Volunteer of the Year award.
Paws Across America
Alumni groups across the country are preparing for the first nationwide Habitat for Humanity project. On Saturday, May 19 UGA Chapters and Clubs from coast to coast will join forces to make a difference in their communities.
