SUPERFREAK

My husband and I are both UGA grads. I'm ABJ '83 and he's BBA '84. I'm a Sigma Kappa and he's a Phi Kappa Theta--our organizations were across the street from each other in the early 1980s. Our first date was Homecoming 1981. We were at UGA the same time as Herschel Walker and the great football team. I remember going to the Georgia-Florida game, as well as the other great football games those years.

We danced to "Superfreak" and "Whip It". We also fancied ourselves to be quite the shaggers (dancing, Southern style). We dined at Shrimp Boat, Chow Goldsteins, and Sonny's Real Pit BBQ. We drank at Papa Joe's.

We were married in September 1984 (although it was a home game that day, so some of our friends didn't stay very long.) We'll celebrate 20 years marriage this fall. We named our daughter after our alma mater, Elizabeth Georgia.

We now live in Cincinnati, Ohio. We're thrilled with Georgia's football record, because then we can get their football games on TV, even way up here.

A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE

My wife and I met at the university in the fall of 1957 (she was Marsha Hope Woodruff at the time and in her senior year and I, Larry V. Lowe, was beginning an MFA program in Speech and Theatre. We were both in the Speech and Theatre Department and were in the fall quarter production of "A Streetcar Named Desire". What a terrific way to begin a romance!!! We were married in 1958 and celebrated our 45 wedding anniversary this past August 2 by taking a tour to Alaska which included a cruise.

Our granddaughter, Katie Hope Whitmire, from Snellville, Georgia, has recently been accepted for admission to the university this coming fall -- the tradition continues!!!

BEST FRIENDS

Patrick and I are both from Carrollton, Georgia and went to rival high schools. We did not know each other until freshman year at UGA when we were introduced through mutual friends. Patrick and I were close friends for two years, flirting with the idea of dating but never acting on it. The night I drove from Jacksonville to St. Augustine at midnight after the UGA/FL game just to see him, I realized how much I wanted to be with him.......we weren't just friends anymore. It took a little time (and some bravery), but we finally admitted our feelings to each other. After being together for 2 1/2 years, Patrick proposed June 4, 2003 on North Campus. We will be married on Dec. 11, 2004. He is my best friend and soul mate and if not for UGA and some great friends I'm sure we never would have found each other!

CHAPEL WEDDING

Tony Mock (class of 1997) and I (D'Nena Brown, class of 1993) first met while teaching in the same school outside of Atlanta. I teach Special Education and we would always come in early and interact with my kids. Our first date was to the UGA vs. Auburn game on November 15th, 1997. We had a wonderful time and our relationship continued to grow from then on.

As our relationship grew there were countless trips back to Athens for Football games and concerts downtown as well as eating at some of our favorite local restaurants. Some of our dates were to Kinchafoonee Cowboys at the Georgia Theatre and then staying over at the Georgia Center.

We got engaged in December, 2001 and knew immediately that we would be married on campus at UGA. There would be no better place in the world that UGA which has so much meaning to each of us and the location of our first date. Little did we know that the Chapel on North Campus was so popular? We were married on March 1, 2003 at the Chapel.

Tony and I are looking forward to our first anniversary and the arrival six weeks later of our daughter and future Georgia Dawgette!

DREAM WEDDING

Nathan and I have been married for a little over two years now and are expecting our first baby in June. We actually started dating in high school when we were sixteen. We then went on to UGA and dated throughout our time there. We graduated in 1998, but Athens still holds such a special place in our hearts because of the fun we had there at UGA.

After ten years of dating, we were finally married on September 16, 2001 at the Botanical Gardens in Athens. When we were students there we would visit the gardens and imagine how pretty a wedding would be at the chapel tucked so peacefully in the woods. On a beautiful September day our dreams came true and our wedding was even more wonderful than we ever imagined. Of course we had to get married on a Sunday though not to interfere with Georgia football, but that was just fine.

Now we return to Athens for all of the football games and enjoy seeing all the changes in downtown and on campus. Nathan and I have grown a lot together, with many exciting times to come. We look forward to bringing our children to UGA one day for football games and fun times.

True love does exist and we were so fortunate to find each other so early in our lives. Nathan means the world to me and makes every day special. Thank you for this opportunity to reflect back on our life together and Nathan- Happy Valentine's Day and I love you!

Love,
Sandi

TIL DEATH DO US PART... (OR UNTIL ONE OF US BECOMES A TECH FAN!)

My husband and I are both UGA alums, UGA employees, and Bulldog fans- in fact, the only thing stronger than our bonds to the University of Georgia is our bond to each other! Having lived in Athens since the age of 3 months, I grew up a Bulldog and couldn't imagine going anywhere else to college. My husband and I met in 1987 while we were both student workers at the Tate Center Gameroom.

In June of 1989, we received our bachelor degrees seated side-by-side at the graduation ceremony, and we were married the following October. Our wedding date was planned around the UGA home football schedule, of course!

We have both enjoyed working for our alma mater for several years, and I have continued my education here at UGA, receiving a masters degree in 1998 and currently working toward my doctorate. Our 11 year old daughter knows that we will be happy to pay her way through college and graduate school- as long as she does not attend Georgia Tech or a school with orange as one of its colors. We're bringing her up properly! This year will mark our 15th wedding anniversary, so these two "dogs" must be doing something right.

THEN AND NOW

Ann Sexton (Atlanta) BS 1960, MME 1963 married Gerald Thurmond (Madison) BBA 1958, JD 1964 on May 21, 1960. Ann & Gerald met at the University when Ann was a sophomore and Gerald was a senior. Attached is our 1960 wedding photo and a recent photo.

We are retired in Houston, Texas, and we visit Georgia several times a year.

DIVINE FATE

I met my wife, Ellen Scott (Maiden name - graduated 1982), on a great Spring afternoon in 1980. I was riding around Athens in the back of a pick up truck of a mutual friend (oh the things we did that we would not want our children doing). We stopped at the Chi Omega house and in jumped this pretty little Sophmore - I was a freshman. I was introduced that afternoon as we rode around and enjoyed the scenary and a few beverages. By divine fate the next day I saw her again at a Bar B Q, beer and water ski day at Lake Hartwell sponsored by the Diving Locker (who I was working part time for as a Divemaster). We spent the day talking, skiing, and hanging out. Sunday she called to ask me to a sorority spring dance. That spring I pulled a few of the typical male blunders that could have ended the relationship - I spent a lot on dozen roses to ask for forgiveness each time. But the Good lord kept her from tossing me aside.

The rest is history. We dated more in that glorius fall football season of 1980. We went to New Orleans to see the National Championship game. We were engaged in the spring of 1982 in Seagrove Beach, Fl and married June 1983 at the Cathedral of St Philip in Atlanta, Ga. We spent another 1 1/2 years in Athens while I completed my MAcc. We have lived in or near Atlanta since and have 4 wonderful children - who we hope all become Bulldog graduates.

Thanks for the opportunity to share our story and my fond memories of UGA the place that brought me together with my partner and love for life,

Charles Crosby

FROM MINTS TO MARRIAGE

My wife, Ellen Gibson Culpepper, and I were both students at UGA in 1968. I was singing with the Men's Glee Club at a Christmas concert in the old Student Union. After the concert, a girl I had been dating, Teresa Thrash, came up and introduced me to Ellen, who immediately blew me a kiss! Not long after that, a friend in my dorm, Craig Daughtry, asked me to go on a double date with him. His date that evening was Ellen. Even though we were not each other's dates, we could hardly keep our eyes off of each other !

Soon we discovered that we had back to back Political Science classes in Le Conte Hall, and we would pass each other entering and leaving the building. I began getting two penny mints from the Mayflower Restaurant where I had breakfast each day and would give one to her when we met between our classes. We agreed to eat the mints later in the day and think of each other. All of that was before we had our first date. When we discovered that we were both from Macon, I gallantly offered her a ride back home the next weekend, and that's when we had our first official date. We were married in Aug. 1970 and have been happily married 33 years. Attached is a photo of us with our two grandaughters.

DEDICATED ALUMNI COUPLE

My husband, Saunders Jones III, and I just got married on December 27, 2003. We're both UGA graduates- I graduated May 2003 with a BS in Early Childhood Education and Saunders graduated in December 2003 with a BA in Philosophy. We've known each other since preschool... we grew up a mile apart in our hometown. Although we were fiercely competitive throughout elementary and middle school, we started dating our last year in high school and continued through college. At first, I went to the State University of West GA - they offered me a better scholarship than UGA did :). However, we couldn't stand to be apart, and being together and being Bulldawgs meant more to us than my scholarship money. We enjoyed three years of UGA together, from tailgating before the big games to funénights downtown with our friends.

Now, we're married and living in our hometown of Cartersville, GA. We bought a house last August and remodeled it... we decorated our home office in 100% UGA! We even planned our honeymoon so that we could be at the UGA vs Perdue game in Orlando a few weeks ago! Our dream is to be one of those dedicated alumni couples who bring our kids and grandkids in a big red and black RV to the games in Athens.

Thanks for letting us share our story... GO DAWGS!

RIGHT TIMING

My wife and I both worked in the television industry and met through a mutual friend in December of 1990. We married in May of 1992 and realized that we both attended UGA, in the school of Journalism at exactly the same time (1980 & 1981), yet we never knew each other. It probably wouldn't have worked out back then, as she was more studious and in a sorority, and I played in a rock band around town. God's timing was better than ours and brought us together at the right time, and we'll be celebrating our 12th anniversary this spring. We have a daughter, Rebecca, who we are grooming to attend UGA in 2014. She's already telling her 3rd grade classmates that Georgia owns Ga. Tech. (Good start I think.)

MET AT A SOCIAL

This is the story of David (BS Pharmacy 2000 ) and Jennifer (AB English 1998). My husband and I met at a social in 1996. He was a TKE and I was an Alpha Gam. We dated all throughout the time we attended UGA. We were married in August 1999. Now we live in Lawrenceville and we are able to go back to Athens all the time. During football season, I think we spend more time in Athens than at our home. In July, our daughter was born and she is already a little bulldog. She met UGA VI at picture day and she attended all 6 home football games last year.

REDCOATS TOGETHER

My husband and I are both UGA and Redcoat Band alums (Mark marched mellephone and was Drum Major his graduate year and I was a majorette.) We met during my first week in Athens - the first week of band camp (he had already been there a year and of course knew all there was to know about everything!!) We actually marched beside each other in my first half time show ... and the rest, as they say, is history. We had four great years in Athens, in the Redcoats (the GA/FL trips were great) and especially in New Orleans ... three times! We were privileged enough to be there during the "Glory Years"! After twenty years of marriage, two wonderful children and hundreds of miles traveling to every UGA home game (and some away games), we are finally moving to Snellville this summer - closer to the "promised land!"

A WINNING TEAM

My name is Jesse Luther Corn and my wife is Kedra Holland-Corn. Kedra and I met at Georgia where she was an All-SEC basketball player. I asked her to marry me on the floor at Stegman Coliseum. We were married while she was still playing in 1996 in Gainesville, Georgia. It was quite the story at the time. I was one of the team managers in her final season there and traveled with the team, etc. We then went on to live in California, Italy, France, and Spain where Kedra has continued to play basketball as a professional.

This past year, Kedra has won the both the Spanish and the WNBA championships.

I am about to finish my MBA at Tulane University where I was fortunate enough to be elected president of the graduate business student body.

Kedra and I have a wonderful life together and after nearly eight years of marriage we still manage to have fun together and manage time for each other despite busy professional lives.

Thank you for allowing us to tell you a little about our life together.

LEARNING AND GROWING TOGETHER

I met met my husband outside of Russell Hall the second week of freshman year (1998), but I picked him out of the crowd on the very day that I moved into the dorms. He stopped to help a girl with her boxes when several other guys passed right by her. I kept my eye on him for the next two weeks, and finally a mutual friend of ours introduced us. A day or two later he stopped by my friend's room to ask me if I wanted to get some ice cream! That day we talked for two hours in the parking lot of the Dairy Queen on Broad Street. When we got back to Russell Hall he dropped me off on the fourth floor, where several girls were waiting‹impatiently to hear of our date, and he gave me a hug. I ran down the hall and yelled, "I've just met the guy I'm going to marry!"

We spent four wonderful years together at UGA learning and growing as individuals and as a couple, and on August 9th, 2003, my dream came true. I married the love of my life. Our wedding rehearsal was UGA themed, and our groom's cake proudly displayed the Georgia G! We both love coming back to Athens as much as possible because it brings back so many wonderful memories of love and laughter. Happy Valentines Day Sweetie! I Love You!

THE GIRL NEXT DOOR

Cindy and I were next door neighbors at River Mill Apartments our senior year (1990) when we first met. I know it is cliche, but even though we had gone on a few dates prior to the GA vs. FL game our first dance on the Landing by the river was the beginning of something special. On May of the same year I proposed to Cindy in front of the Chapel, and we were married the next year. This July will be our 13th anniversary, and every year we return to Athens to show our daughter Savannah where "Daddy" proposed to "Mommy" and to see if River Mill is still standing.

FAMILY TRADITION

We met and married at UGA. Our favorite dates were football games when we could cheer on the 'Dawgs'. Our younger daughter is also an alum, class of '99. Now that we have a grandchild we're hoping he'll continue the tradition as a member of the class of 2025! Go DAWGS!!
